Hi, I'm kunstgriff, aka Batman Jonas Lawrence Odinson, and I'm a 23 year old guy with a passion for comics, literature, classic rock, cinema from all over the world, art, and many other things.

Tim Wayne. Happiest kid in the world. <3

And for the first time in a while, maybe even since Infinite Crisis, we see the innocent kid before he got weighed down by the deaths of everyone close to him.

My first post today (actually yesterday’s) for the DC 30 Day Challenge (as inspired by shelleysupergirl)
Day 17: Favourite Legacy Hero
*Sigh* I know I should just put Black Canary here and get it over and done with, but I’ve already harped on about Dinah and how much I love her as a character. Fairly certain Batman and Hal are the only ones I have ever come close to posting as much of on this blog as I have for Dinah… hell, you go to my page and you’ll see a marriage declaration in her name in my intro! So while she is definitely my favourite Legacy character, I’ll write about a couple of others instead.
One of the things I love about the DCU is the concept of legacy. It’s unusual to see legacies being passed on in other comic universes (apart from Bucky Cap and the Green Goblin, perhaps) the way it works with DC, where each generation of heroes is inspired in some way to take on the mantle and the burden of the previous one. One of the earliest group of heroes was the JSA, who have inspired numerous successors to take on their names. If anything, the most recent versions of the JSA have been dedicated to keeping legacies alive and training the next generation of heroes. Heroes such as the Flash, Green Lantern, Hourman, Hawkman (ok, not him, and I don’t want to get into his history), Doc Mid-Nite, Mr Terrific, etc. One of those heroes was Ted Knight, the original Starman, with one of the most immense legacies in the DCU. After a long career himself, his mantle and unfortunately named and shaped cosmic rod were taken up (among others) by his sons David and Jack, a blue-skinned alien who took his name from the David Bowie song, a man named Will Payton who actually turned out to be a prince from a different galaxy, and Thom Kallor, a sometimes-insane hero from the 30th/31st century who even travelled back in time to serve with the JSA. But my favourite of all of these is Courtney Whitmore aka Stargirl, the current wielder of the cosmic rod (you in the back- NO DIRTY THOUGHTS!). Originally a wilful kid who took up the name and gadgets of the late Sylvester Pemberton, the Star Spangled Kid, just to annoy her step-dad, she’s grown into one of the senior heroes in the fabled JSA, an inspiration for the latest generation of heroes and standing side-by-side with the very first- all by the age of 18! She’s mature, she’s responsible, she cares, and she kicks butt quite well indeed. Those of you who saw my July 17 Courtney spam would know that I have a soft spot for her as a character. What can I say? She’s a Star (Ok, I’ll stop the puns…)!
My other legacy hero is generally not thought of as a legacy hero, because sidekicks are usually appointed. But Tim Drake, as Robin, went beyond that definition. He was inspired by Dick Grayson, the first Robin and now virtually an older brother to Tim, and as a young kid figured out who Batman and both previous Robins were and went and asked for the job. He took up the job with Batman’s blessing, and grew into it. He redefined it with his job as sidekick, solo and in multiple super-teams. Where Dick really grew as a hero after leaving Bruce and setting out on his own, Tim prospered under Bruce Wayne and left even Bruce acknowledging that it wouldn’t be long before Tim surpassed him. Until Batman returns and with the likes of Ralph and Vic dead, Tim is the World’s Greatest Detective right now. And where he lacks the natural physical ability of Dick and Jason, he has learnt to make up for with varied training acquired while travelling the world that is well beyond anything Dick obtained (ok, Jason did get the training after he died…). And with his recent missions having toughened him up a lot, he’s getting over his own biggest weakness- his refusal to do anything other than fight fairly. He’s learning, like Bruce once noted, that with the amount of preparation they put in against seemingly insurmountable odds, it’s not cheating, it’s WINNING.
P.S. I just realised how odd it is for me that I put these two together- I used to ship them once upon a time from their appearances together in Young Justice and Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E.

Recently, Tam Fox (daughter of Lucius) has shown signs of clearly being into Tim (the less said about their ‘engagement’ the better). Tim has noticed her looks, but it’s safe to say he remains oblivious about her desires, as Tim tends to do. Besides, Tim is still hung up on Steph even if he doesn’t want to admit it to the world.

Steph’s now serving as Batgirl, and Tim is back as Red Robin. They’re no longer a couple, and some unfortunate incidents have passed between them, but there’s no denying they still do care for each other. And they look great together, of course.
So, now we wait until they give in and hook up again. In the meantime, Tim can make do with his lovemaking sessions with Conner. ‘Cos it isn’t just chicks who dig the cape…
Ending spam. There could have been so many more girls (20 years’ worth) and pics, but I wanted to keep it brief…
